Release Notes - HubSpot Integration
September 18, 2025 - Action required: Reinstall the sanctions.io app to enable new features
Following our latest development cycle, we are excited to introduce the new sanctions.io features that are now live in your HubSpot integration. These updates utilize HubSpot's newly announced capabilities from INBOUND 2025 and include enhanced screening tools.
Users Impact
This directly addresses several user experience issues and adds powerful new automation capabilities. The App Events integration means you can now build sophisticated workflows around screening results and errors, while the enhanced property support makes screening more accurate and contextually relevant.
Timeline
Complete both actions before October 1st:
- App reinstall: Click the reinstall link
- Remove Legacy screening actions and replace with new Contact Screening and Company Screening actions: Optionally include HubSpot properties (Country, Identifier, Date of Birth) as inputs to these new screening actions.
New Features Deployed
Enhanced Activity Timeline Integration (Using New HubSpot App Events)
- All screening activities now automatically log to your HubSpot contact and company timelines using the new App Events announced at INBOUND.
- Two types of events are logged:
- Screening event completed: Shows when screenings occurred and the number of matches found
- Error event: Logs any problems with the screening process for immediate visibility
- Workflow triggers: App Events can trigger HubSpot workflows - perfect for setting up notifications when screening errors occur or taking automated actions based on screening results.
Improved Workflow Actions (Manual Upgrade Required)
- New screening workflow actions can now use HubSpot properties for more targeted screening:
- Country for both contacts and companies.
- Identifiers such as a passport number for a contact or a tax ID for a company.
- Date of Birth for contacts only.
- Better integration with your existing HubSpot automation
- Enhanced error handling for immediate workflow failure detection
Better User Experience
- Screening buttons only appear on contact and company cards when the API token is configured correctly.
- Clear error notifications when API tokens are missing (immediate workflow errors).
- Later-stage errors (expired subscriptions, API issues) are detected through App Events logged to the timeline.
- Updated settings screen shows the connection status to your Sanctions.io account.
Critical User Actions Required
1. App Reinstallation: You'll need to reinstall the Sanctions.io app to enable the new App Events timeline features.
-
- Process: Click the reinstall link
- Time required: Under 2 minutes
- Impact: All existing settings and data remain unchanged
2. Workflow Action Replacement (Manual Process) Important: Legacy workflow actions are NOT automatically upgraded. You must manually replace them:
-
- Find any workflows using the LEGACY screening action
- Replace with the new screening workflow action
- Delete the LEGACY workflow action
Time required: Only a few moments per workflow
Deadline: LEGACY actions will be removed in October to avoid confusion
3. API Token Verification: Ensure you have a valid sanctions.io API token configured. Missing tokens now cause immediate workflow errors (no more silent failures).
Technical Context
Error Handling Improvements:
- Immediate errors: Missing API tokens cause the workflow to fail immediately with a clear error message
- Runtime errors: Issues like expired subscriptions or API problems are detected and logged as App Events on the affected object's timeline
- Workflow triggers: You can now set up workflows that trigger when screening errors occur using the new App Events.
Breaking Change Notice: We don't expect to make breaking changes like this again in the future. The October removal of LEGACY actions is a one-time cleanup to streamline the user experience.
