Setup Guide
sanctions.io for HubSpot brings AML compliance screening natively into your CRM. This article walks you through how to install the integration, what to expect during setup, and how to handle the transition from a HubSpot Sandbox to a Production portal.

Before you begin
You will need:
- A HubSpot portal (any plan for manual screening, Professional, or Enterprise for workflow automation)
- A sanctions.io account (installing via HubSpot App Marketplace will create one for you automatically - see below)
There are two ways to install
The method you use matters. Read the section that applies to you before proceeding.

Install via HubSpot App Marketplace (new users)
This is the recommended method if you are installing for the first time and do not yet have a sanctions.io account.
- Go to the sanctions.io listing on the HubSpot App Marketplace and click Install app.
- Select the HubSpot portal you want to connect. If you only have one portal, this step is skipped automatically.
- Confirm the permissions to connect the app to HubSpot.
- A new sanctions.io trial account is automatically created and connected to your HubSpot portal.
No API token steps required. Your integration is ready; skip ahead to Enabling the App Card.
Install via Direct Install Link (Sandbox-to-Live and existing users)
Use this method if you have already installed the sanctions.io app in a HubSpot Sandbox portal and are now moving to a Production portal, or if you have an existing sanctions.io account and want to connect it to an additional HubSpot portal.
Important: Read this if you have already installed the sanctions.io app in a HubSpot Sandbox portal.
Every install via the HubSpot App Marketplace automatically creates a brand new sanctions.io trial account. If you installed into your Sandbox (creating Account A) and then install again from the Marketplace for your Production portal, it will create a completely separate Account B; your Sandbox screening history, settings, and API tokens will not carry over.
To avoid this, use the Direct Install Link instead. This skips the automatic account creation and connects your Production portal to your existing sanctions.io account.
Step 1 - Find your API token in sanctions.io
- Log in to your existing account at sanctions.io
- In the left-side menu, click API Settings, then go to the API Tokens section
- Locate your Production API token. If none exists, click + Create New Token, select Production, and click Create Token
- Copy the token. You'll need it shortly
Sandbox tokens are also available for testing and do not count against your plan quota.
Step 2 - Install via the Direct Install Link
Rather than returning to the HubSpot Marketplace, use the Direct Install Link to add the integration to your Production portal. You can find this link in either:
- The Settings screen of your sanctions.io integration in your Sandbox portal, or
- The sanctions.io Knowledge Base
Follow the on-screen steps to install into your Production portal. This bypasses the automatic account creation flow.
Step 3 - Connect your API token in HubSpot
- In HubSpot, go to Settings → Integrations
- Locate the sanctions.io integration and click Connect
- Paste your Production API token into the field provided
- Click anywhere on the app card to validate the token, then click Connect
Your sanctions.io account name will appear next to your HubSpot portal ID, confirming the connection is active.
Enabling the App Card
The sanctions.io App Card, which shows screening results and the Screen Now button, does not appear on Contact or Company records until you enable it manually.
- Go to Settings → Integrations → App Cards
- Enable the Contact screening App Card and the Company screening App Card
- Make sure both are set to appear on the Record page default view
Once enabled, the App Card will be visible on every Contact and Company record in your portal.
If a team member cannot see the screening section on a record, it is almost always due to App Card visibility issues. Start by checking this setting first.
Configuring your watchlists (optional)
By default, all 60+ sanctions lists are enabled. To customize which lists are active:
- Go to Settings → Integrations → Connected Apps → sanctions.io for HubSpot
- Open List Selection
- Lists are organized by region. Deselect any that are not relevant to your compliance requirements

Running your first screening
With the App Card enabled, open any Contact or Company record in HubSpot. You will see the sanctions.io App Card in the right-hand panel.
Click Screen Now to run an immediate screening. Results are returned within seconds and automatically stored in the record.
Trial period: New accounts include a 200-screening allowance for workflow and scheduled screenings. The Screen Now button is not subject to this limit and can be used freely during your trial. If you need to run a larger batch during evaluation, contact help@sanctions.io.
