PEP Settings

Set a company-wide confidence threshold for PEP matches

ListsThis guide explains the PEP settings in the sanctions.io Portal, where you can set a company-wide default confidence score for Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) matches.

By default, every search, monitoring entry, or API call can specify its own PEP confidence threshold. PEP settings let you set a minimum that applies across your entire account, so no PEP screening, regardless of who runs it or how it's triggered, returns matches below the standard your organization has agreed on. This is especially useful for compliance teams who need to demonstrate a consistent, documented PEP threshold across every user and integration, rather than relying on individual searchers to configure it correctly each time.

PEP settings are kept separate from your sanctions screening settings, so your team can tune each threshold independently to match your organization's own risk appetite and compliance policy, rather than being locked into a single confidence score across every screening type.

Note: PEP screening availability depends on your subscription plan; only users with the Owner or Admin role can change these settings; all other roles can view this section only.

This setting also does not affect sanctions and other watchlist (e.g., HRJ Lists, Crime Lists) confidence scores. Those continue to be determined by whatever score is set at the moment the search is run, or by what's configured in the Screening Template for batch searches.

How the PEP Match Confidence Score Works

The PEP match confidence score is a company-wide setting that always takes priority over any value sent in a search request, monitoring entry, or API request. Once configured, it replaces whatever confidence score was submitted for that individual screening, whether the request's value was higher or lower. This applies consistently across the Portal and API.

For example, if your company's PEP setting is 93%, a user's search request will use 93% as the confidence threshold for PEP matches, even if that user specified 88% in their own request.

Scope of this setting:

  • Applies only to PEP results. It has no effect on sanctions lists, criminal watchlists, adverse media, or other data sources.
  • Doesn't turn PEP screening on or off; it only sets the confidence threshold. If PEP isn't included as a data source in a given search or monitoring entry, this setting has no effect.
  • Can be configured from 80% to 99%, and defaults to the platform standard of 88% if left uncustomized.

Set Your Custom PEP Settings

  1. Sign in to the sanctions.io Portal.
  2. In the left-hand navigation, click Settings.
  3. Select the Company tab.
  4. Click Search Settings.
  5. Scroll down to the PEP settings section.
  6. Drag the PEP match confidence score slider to your desired threshold.
  7. Click Save changes.

Tip: This change affects only new PEP searches going forward. It does not retroactively rescore past results.

Delete Your Custom PEP Settings

If you'd rather revert to the platform's default PEP threshold instead of a custom score:

  1. Go to Settings → Company → Search Settings → PEP settings.
  2. Click Delete.
  3. Confirm your decision by clicking Delete settings, or click Cancel to keep your current setting.

Note: Deleting your custom score does not disable PEP screening; it only resets the confidence threshold back to the platform default.
